Former Kerala Finance Minister Charged with Defamation: Sikkim HC Refuses to Quash Summons, Petition Dismissed
The Sikkim High Court has dismissed a petition filed by former Kerala Finance Minister, Thomas Isaac, seeking to quash a defamation summons issued against him. The summons was issued by a lower court in Sikkim based on a complaint filed by the state-sponsored lottery company, MSL. The complaint alleged that Isaac had made defamatory statements against the company. The High Court, after hearing the arguments, found no valid grounds to interfere with the proceedings of the trial court at this stage. By refusing to quash the summons, the High Court has allowed the defamation case to proceed. This means that Thomas Isaac will have to appear before the Sikkim court and face trial for the allegations made against him, a significant development in the legal battle between the former minister and the lottery company.
