The Indian government is considering establishing an inter-departmental committee to enforce regulatory compliance on online gaming platforms. This panel would include representatives from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Reserve Bank of India (RBI), tax authorities, and the Department of Consumer Affairs. The primary focus is to address issues like tax evasion, money laundering, and socio-economic concerns linked to online gaming. The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) has highlighted tax evasion by both domestic and offshore gaming platforms, amounting to over Rs 1 lakh crore. Offshore entities have also been flagged for non-compliance. To strengthen enforcement, the DGGI recommends blocking non-compliant websites and collaboration with international regulators.
