GST Alert! No Filing of GST Returns Older Than 3 Years from July 2025,
The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has issued an advisory confirming that from July 2025, it will not be possible to file GST returns that are more than three years old. This new time-barring provision, implemented through the GST portal, will apply to various return forms, including GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-4, and GSTR-9. The move is intended to enforce timely compliance, reduce the backlog of old returns, and bring certainty to the tax system. For taxpayers, this means that any returns for periods prior to July 2022 will be permanently blocked after the July 2025 deadline. This rule change underscores the importance of regular and timely filing of GST returns to avoid the loss of Input Tax Credit (ITC) and other potential financial repercussions. Businesses with outstanding returns are advised to file them promptly to avoid being barred by this new regulation.
