GST Assistant Commissioner, Dehradun under Vigilance Arrest for taking Bribe
In Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, a high-ranking official from the State Tax Department, Assistant Commissioner Shashikant Dubey, was arrested for bribery. This incident caused significant unrest after Dubey was caught accepting a bribe at the GST office on Laxmi Road, Dalanwala. The arrest followed a complaint from a local restaurant owner who accused Dubey of demanding a bribe of ₹1 lakh, later reduced to ₹75,000 under the pretext of penalties on manipulated bills. Following the complaint, a vigilance team conducted a sting operation leading to Dubey's apprehension. Subsequent searches at Dubey's residence and other locations uncovered assets and crucial evidence. Superintendent of Police Renu Lohani confirmed the arrest and emphasized actions were based on the complaint, urging the public to report bribery incidents. The vigilance team announced rewards for informants and assured confidentiality for whistleblowers. This case underscores ongoing efforts against corruption in public services.
