The Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections in India surged by 10% in August 2024, reaching ₹1.75 lakh crore, compared to the same period in the previous year. This marks the third consecutive month of GST collections exceeding ₹1.75 lakh crore, indicating strong economic activity and compliance. The report highlights that central GST, state GST, and integrated GST contributed significantly to this collection, with the latter accounting for ₹89,000 crore. Additionally, the compensation cess collected was ₹11,000 crore. The consistent rise in GST collections reflects the improving economic environment post-pandemic and suggests a strong consumer demand and industrial recovery. These figures also underscore the government's efforts in improving tax compliance and plugging leakages in the system.
