The convenorship of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on GST rate rationalisation may shift from Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who recently joined the panel. Protocol suggests a chief minister should lead the GoM, especially as it is set to meet in the coming weeks. The panel, initially formed under Karnataka's Basavaraj Bommai in September 2021 and reconstituted with UP Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna as convener in October 2023, will present its progress report at the 54th GST Council meeting, expected in August.
