The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has introduced biometric-based Aadhaar authentication and document verification for GST registration applicants in Bihar, Delhi, Karnataka, and Punjab. This initiative, which began on September 6, 2024, aims to enhance security and minimize fraudulent registrations. Under this system, applicants receive an email after submitting their application (Form GST REG-01) with either a link for OTP-based Aadhaar authentication or an appointment for biometric authentication at designated GST Suvidha Kendras (GSK). Applicants are required to bring their original Aadhaar and PAN cards along with the documents submitted during the application process. Upon completion, the system generates an Application Reference Number (ARN) to track the registration. This move enhances the transparency and authenticity of the GST registration process, targeting fake registrations through the biometric verification of applicants.
