Starting in July 2025, the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) will implement a significant change in the GSTR-3B filing process, making the auto-populated liability from GSTR-1 non-editable. This move is designed to enhance compliance and ensure greater consistency between the details of outward supplies reported in GSTR-1 and the liabilities declared in GSTR-3B. The system will auto-fill Part A of the payment form, GST-PMT-06, with the liability from GSTR-3B, and this amount will also be non-editable. While this change aims to streamline the filing process and prevent discrepancies, it raises concerns about flexibility. Taxpayers will lose the ability to adjust their liability in GSTR-3B for any legitimate reasons or errors made in GSTR-1, potentially leading to cash flow issues if they are required to pay the auto-populated amount without having the option to make corrections first.
