Haal Movie: Kerala High Court – RSS Office Bearer Opposes Film, CBFC Certification & Cuts Under Challenge
The Kerala High Court is hearing a plea by producer-director of the Malayalam film “Haal” (starring Shane Nigam) challenging the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) decision to grant an ‘A’ certificate and prescribe edits (including scenes of beef biryani consumption, heroine in Muslim attire, religious references). Separately, an office-bearer of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has sought impleadment, contending the film depicts the organisation as “riotous, thuggish and loutish”. The Court has allowed impleader and scheduled further hearing after arranging film-screening for the bench. The matter raises questions of artistic freedom, certification regime and religious sentiments. (Live Law)
