The Supreme Court criticized the Delhi High Court for extending the stay on a lower court's order granting bail to a money-laundering accused, Parvinder Singh Khurana. \r
Justices Aravind Kumar and Sandeep Mehta restored Khurana's bail, emphasizing the importance of liberty and questioning the year-long stay on bail. The High Court had initially stayed the bail in June 2023 and further adjourned the matter in May 2024. Khurana had been granted bail by the Rouse Avenue Court on June 17, 2023, but the Delhi High Court stayed it upon the Enforcement Directorate's appeal. \r
The Supreme Court stayed the High Court's May 22 order and directed the ED to respond, with the next hearing scheduled for July 11.
