ICAI may simplify CA Firm Demerger Norms to Promote Amalgamation
ICAI, focusing on promoting amalgamation among CA firms, plans to simplify demerger norms as per a recent draft guideline. The initiative aims to eliminate the current five-year restriction on firms reclaiming their original names post-demerger, facilitating easier mergers and fostering operational efficiency among smaller CA firms. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, president of ICAI, highlighted the need for firms to specialize and scale up amidst competitive pressures. The proposed changes are set to be discussed in ICAI's upcoming council meeting in July, following the release of an exposure draft inviting public comments. This move aligns with efforts to enhance audit quality and adaptability across different business sectors. The development underscores ICAI's proactive stance in shaping regulatory frameworks to meet evolving industry demands and support sustainable growth within the chartered accountancy sector.
