The Supreme Court criticized the Orissa High Court for granting only two months of bail to an undertrial, Kishor Karmakar, in a case involving cannabis under the NDPS Act, despite the trial pending since 2022 with only one witness examined. The Supreme Court emphasized that the right to a speedy trial is a fundamental right linked to life and personal liberty.
