The Supreme Court of India will decide if Goods and Services Tax (GST) or Service Tax applies to mining royalties. A bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has scheduled the hearing for August, addressing 61 petitions. Previously, a Constitution bench ruled that mining royalties aren't a tax. The Court has appointed specific advocates to streamline the process. The Rajasthan High Court's decision that royalties are taxable as a service is also under review.
