The IT Ministry will meet with industry associations on Thursday to discuss the draft Digital Competition law, chaired by IT Secretary S. Krishnan. The draft bill has sparked debate between startups and tech giants. Senior officials from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and the Competition Commission of India (CCI) will attend. \r
Startups like Matrimony.Com and Sharechat support the bill’s 'ex-ante' regulations, which would allow proactive monitoring of large digital enterprises to prevent anti-competitive behavior. This contrasts with the current 'ex-post' framework where CCI intervenes after such conduct occurs. \r
Some startups argue that industry association IAMAI's opposition to 'ex-ante' provisions represents only a minority view within the digital startup ecosystem. Another meeting is scheduled for June 18.
