The Delhi High Court and Jharkhand High Court have been functioning without regular Chief Justices for extended periods. Justice Manmohan has been the Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court since November 2023, following the elevation of the previous Chief Justice to the Supreme Court. Similarly, the Jharkhand High Court has been without a regular Chief Justice since December 2023, except for a brief 15-day period when Justice BR Sarangi served before his retirement. The delay in appointing permanent Chief Justices has been attributed to the Central government's slow clearance of Collegium recommendations, prompting the Jharkhand government to approach the Supreme Court.
