Indian labour officials visited a Foxconn factory near Chennai this week to investigate claims of discrimination against married women in iPhone assembly jobs, following a Reuters report. A five-member team from the regional labour department interviewed executives and requested company policies, recruitment practices, and compliance with labour laws. Although Foxconn claimed not to discriminate and stated that about 8% of its female workforce is married, the investigation continues. Both Apple and Foxconn had previously acknowledged and addressed past lapses in hiring practices, but the current allegations remain under scrutiny.
