On July 1, 2024, the Sawantwadi police in Maharashtra registered the first FIR under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), marking the start of its implementation. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also announced Sujata Saunik as the state’s first woman chief secretary and Rashmi Shukla as the first woman DGP.
