Major GST Reforms for MSMEs: CBIC eases Registration and Filing Under QRMP Scheme
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has initiated significant GST reforms to simplify registration and filing for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India, aligning with the Union Budget 2025-26. These reforms aim to ease GST compliance, improve liquidity, and foster business growth for MSMEs, which are vital to India's economy. Key changes include simplified GST registration, reducing physical verification for non-risky businesses and minimizing document requirements for faster, more transparent processes. The Quarterly Return Filing and Monthly Payment (QRMP) scheme has been refined to offer more flexibility, allowing businesses with an annual turnover of up to ₹5 crore to file GSTR-3B quarterly while paying taxes monthly, and resolving technical issues that previously delayed refunds. Additionally, MSME classification thresholds were revised effective April 1, 2025, to allow more businesses to access benefits like priority sector lending and tax incentives. Further compliance and financial reforms include reduced pre-deposit for appeals involving only penalties and enhanced credit availability for MSMEs.
