Mospi sets up 26-member committee to decide new base year for GDP

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has established a 26-member Advisory Committee on National Accounts Statistics (ACNAS) to decide the base year for GDP data. \r
Biswanath Goldar, former professor at the Institute of Economic Growth, will chair the committee, which includes GC Manna, Mausami Das, and Chetan Ghate among others. The committee will review existing databases, advise on new data sources, and align GDP with indices like the wholesale price index (WPI) and consumer price index (CPI). \r
It will also focus on methodologies for national accounts statistics and seasonal adjustments. The committee's tenure is five years or until the next base year revision is completed.
