The first FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 was lodged at Rehra police station in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, for causing death due to negligence. Replacing colonial-era laws, the new criminal laws include Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023. FIRs were also lodged under BNS in Bareilly and Agra for kidnapping and theft, respectively. The Uttar Pradesh police have completed extensive training for officers and set up necessary infrastructure for the new laws. The aim is to ensure timely justice, reduce pending cases, and increase the conviction rate to 90%.
