New govt to carry forward key IT policies to adapt to evolving digital landscape
The new government, taking charge on Monday, plans to advance key IT policies from its previous term to modernize India’s digital infrastructure. Priorities include enforcing the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, establishing a data protection board, and consulting on the proposed Digital India Bill, which will replace the IT Act of 2000. \r
The government will also advance the AI Mission to make India an AI hub. Despite coalition dynamics, policies on AI, data protection, and the Digital India Act will remain consistent. Emphasis will be on inclusive decision-making and maintaining safe-harbour principles for intermediaries while addressing issues like deepfakes and malicious AI content.
