An advocate from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Allahabad High Court challenging the Central government's notification declaring June 25 as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' or Constitution Murder Day. This day is meant to honor those who fought against the Emergency declared in 1975. The PIL argues that the term "murder" in reference to the Constitution is insulting and violates the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act. The petitioner also questions the legality and authority behind the notification and the appropriateness of the Joint Secretary’s role in issuing it. The matter is scheduled for hearing on July 31.
