A major scam has been uncovered in Pune where a group of tax professionals have been booked for their alleged involvement in a ₹500 crore bogus Income Tax Return (ITR) deduction scheme. The fraudsters reportedly created and filed fraudulent ITRs on behalf of numerous individuals, claiming false deductions for various non-existent expenses. These deductions, which included fake claims for political donations and medical insurance, were used to illegally reduce the taxable income of clients. The Income Tax Department, acting on intelligence, conducted raids and initiated legal proceedings against the perpetrators, including tax advisors and accountants. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges in tax compliance and the fraudulent activities that undermine the integrity of the tax system.
