The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced on July 18 that it has imposed monetary penalties on four cooperative banks for various rule violations. The banks penalized include The District Co-operative Central Bank and Sree Harihareshwara Urban Co-operative Bank, each fined Rs 50,000, Chandrapur District Central Co-operative Bank fined Rs 2.50 lakh, and The Vaishali District Central Co-operative Bank fined Rs 1 lakh. The penalties were imposed due to failures such as delayed reporting of frauds to NABARD and lapses in implementing risk categorization reviews of accounts. These measures underscore RBI's regulatory oversight to maintain compliance and integrity in the banking sector.
