Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta expressed confidence in India's arbitration system during the London International Disputes Week. He emphasized the Arbitration Act's checks and balances to maintain the rule of law and the right of parties to approach Constitutional courts for violations. \r
Mehta praised India's adherence to the rule of law, citing personal experiences of losing cases where it was warranted. He refuted claims of government bias in disputes with foreign investors, highlighting the party-driven nature of arbitration. Shashank Garg discussed the newly established Arbitration Bar of India, aimed at providing a unified voice for arbitration practitioners and enhancing consistency in policies. \r
Regarding a recent Supreme Court ruling, Garg clarified it as a domestic arbitration matter, not affecting international arbitration. Mehta assured the competence of Indian courts in setting aside awards, citing statutory amendments providing grounds for challenging awards, including fraud and corruption.
