The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has proposed tax benefits for companies investing in zero coupon zero principal (ZCZP) bonds issued by non-profits listed on the Social Stock Exchange (SSE). \r
SEBI's Kamlesh Chandra Varshney stated the proposal is with the finance ministry, with the Central Board of Direct Taxes confirming tax benefits under section 80G. These measures aim to boost social sector funding and donor trust. The SSE, introduced in the 2019-20 Union budget, links social enterprises and donors. \r
Currently, eight to nine non-profits are listed, raising nearly ₹11 crore. SEBI has lowered the ZCZP bond issue size to ₹50 lakh and the minimum donation to ₹10,000, while mandating annual impact reports for social enterprises.
