The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has revised the Basic Services Demat Account (BSDA) framework to boost financial inclusion by raising the securities limit from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. \r
According to the new circular, which took effect on Friday, the value of securities in a BSDA must not exceed Rs 10 lakh for both debt and non-debt securities combined. To qualify for a BSDA, an individual must hold only one such account and one BSDA across all depositories. \r
Maintenance charges will now be Rs 100 for holdings between Rs 4 lakh and Rs 10 lakh, with no charges for amounts up to Rs 4 lakh. For amounts exceeding Rs 10 lakh, regular demat charges apply. Depository participants are required to review and update accounts to reflect these changes within two months.
