Subsequent Price Reduction For 'Maruthi Jimmy', CCI Dismisses Compliant Against Maruti Suzuki
The Competition Commission of India (CCI), comprising Ms Ravneet Kaur, Mr Anil Agrawal, Ms Sweta Kakkad, and Mr Deepak Anurag, dismissed allegations against Maruti Suzuki regarding its pricing and market conduct concerning the 'Jimny' SUV. \r
The Informant had claimed that Maruti Suzuki's pricing strategy for 'Jimny', including sudden discounts on subsequent models, devalued early purchases and pressured customers into accessory purchases. However, CCI found Maruti Suzuki's market share in the SUV segment did not indicate dominance capable of influencing market dynamics significantly.\r
It determined the matter primarily involved a personal pricing dispute, not falling under Section 4 of the Competition Act, 2002. The Commission concluded that Maruti Suzuki's actions did not constitute anti-competitive behavior, thus dismissing the complaint under Section 26(2) of the Competition Act.
