Supreme Court Asks All India Tourist Permit Holders To Approach HCs Challenging States' Levy Of Border Tax On Vehicles
The Supreme Court of India has directed transporters and tour operators with All India Tourist Permits to approach High Courts regarding the levying of Border Tax by various states, including Tamil Nadu. The Court declined to assess the petitions on their merits, suggesting the petitioners first challenge the state rules at the High Courts. It noted that state enactments weren't challenged and thus, the states' actions were lawful. Any taxes collected will depend on the High Courts' final decisions.
