Supreme Court Extends Convicted MLA Udhay Bhan Singh's Interim Bail In 1999 Murder Case; Directs UP Govt To Comply With Orders
The Supreme Court on June 28 extended the interim bail of BSP Leader and Former MLA Uday Bhan Singh, convicted in a 1999 murder case. The Court issued notice on his contempt petition alleging state authorities' inaction against an order for his premature release. Justices AS Oka and Ahsanuddin Amanullah heard the case, noting Singh's plea against the Principal Secretary's non-compliance with a previous April 29 order. The court had allowed Singh's premature release, citing parity with co-accused, with a directive for state authorities to decide within six weeks. Singh's surrender deadline was extended to July 26, pending compliance. Convicted in a triple murder, Singh seeks relief after 20 years and 7 months in custody. The matter resumes on July 26.
