Supreme Court Rejects Plea By Bajaj Auto To Raise Cap On Auto Rickshaws In Delhi
The Supreme Court dismissed Bajaj Auto's plea to raise the cap on auto-rickshaws in Delhi. Justices Abhay Oka and Augustine George Masih highlighted that the cap aims to protect the environment and allowing manufacturers to challenge it would set a bad precedent. The court indicated it would consider such requests only if they come from the government or public interest groups. The cap, established in 1997 and last modified in 2011, remains unchanged despite Bajaj Auto's argument that modern CNG autos are environmentally friendly.
