Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, speaking at the GST Day programme, emphasized the need for fair distribution of tax proceeds between the Centre and States, claiming that Karnataka is not receiving its due share of taxes. He highlighted that before GST, Karnataka collected taxes through VAT and lamented the reduction of the state’s share by 1.7% under the 15th Finance Commission. Siddaramaiah urged the newly constituted 16th Finance Commission to ensure a fair tax share, stressing that Karnataka's significant tax contributions are not reflected in the state’s central tax receipts. He also spoke on the importance of taxation for state administration and development, praising the Commercial Taxes Department's efforts to prevent tax leakage.
