Telangana gig workers union accuses Zepto of exploitative practices; co refutes accusations
The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers' Union has leveled severe accusations of "exploitative practices" against Zepto. The union claims drastically reduced per-delivery rates, absence of guaranteed minimum income, unsafe delivery deadlines, arbitrary fines, and a lack of basic amenities at dark stores. They also allege that Zepto fails to provide essential benefits like ESI, PF, health insurance, or accident coverage to its workers. Zepto, however, has vehemently denied these claims, asserting that Hyderabad delivery partners earn ₹100-120 per hour with transparent payouts and incentives. Zepto also states it provides insurance, free doctor consultations, medicine discounts, and comfortable rest areas. The union's ongoing strike seeks labor department intervention, while Zepto maintains the strike was "swiftly addressed."
