Timing Of Arvind Kejriwal's CBI Arrest Circumspect, But Arrest Not Illegal: Delhi Court
In a recent development, a Delhi Court addressed the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the liquor policy case, ruling that the arrest, at its current stage, cannot be deemed illegal. Judge Amitabh Rawat of Rouse Avenue Courts, while granting CBI three days of custody, emphasized that while the arrest itself is not illegal based on available evidence, the CBI should exercise caution and not act overzealously. The court acknowledged arguments from Kejriwal's defense, stating that the timing of the arrest might raise questions but does not alone justify declaring it illegal. It justified the custody remand citing the need to confront Kejriwal with evidence related to the conspiracy allegations. The court also ensured compliance with Supreme Court directives during custody, allowing specific accommodations for Kejriwal's health needs and legal access. Kejriwal is scheduled for further court appearance on June 29.
