Will Convey Concerns About New Criminal Laws To Union Govt, Refrain From Protests : BCI To Bar Associations
The Bar Council of India (BCI) has urged all Bar Associations to avoid protests against the new criminal laws, namely Bharatiya Nyay Sanhiya, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, effective from July 1. These laws replace the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act. The BCI has received multiple concerns from Bar Associations and prominent legal figures like Senior Advocates Kapil Sibal and Mukul Rohatgi. Despite the opposition, the BCI assured it will address these issues with the Union Home and Law Ministries and seek the intervention of Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav. It has asked Bar Associations and Senior Advocates to identify the problematic provisions and will form a committee of Senior Advocates, former Judges, social activists, and journalists to propose amendments.
