Frequently asked questions
Which tax regime should I choose?
It depends on your deductions: the new regime has lower slab rates but few deductions, while the old regime allows deductions such as 80C and HRA. A computation under both shows which is cheaper.
When is advance tax payable?
In instalments by 15 June, 15 September, 15 December and 15 March, where the tax due for the year exceeds ₹10,000.
Is tax planning legal?
Yes — using deductions, exemptions and structures the law provides is legitimate. Arrangements without commercial substance can be challenged under anti-avoidance rules.
Does the new Income-tax Act change tax planning?
From 1 April 2026, provisions are renumbered and a single tax year applies, so plans for income from that date are made under the Income-tax Act, 2025.
