INDIA bloc will ensure stable policy framework, simple GST, end tax terrorism, says Jairam
In an exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18, Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh outlined the goals of the INDIA bloc, emphasizing the need for a stable policy framework, simplified tax structure, and an end to what he termed as "tax terrorism." Ramesh highlighted plans to reform the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to ensure simplicity and fairness, proposing one or two moderate tax rates. The Congress manifesto promises the implementation of GST 2.0, aiming to relieve the burden on the poor. \r
Additionally, the alliance plans to focus on job-linked incentives in manufacturing, alongside reforms to the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme. The Congress pledges to introduce measures such as the right to apprenticeship for youth and an employment-linked incentive (ELI) scheme, with the goal of doubling the economy in 10 years. \r
Criticizing the Modi government's approach to privatisation, Ramesh emphasized the need for divestment to increase competition while ensuring fair practices. He expressed confidence in the INDIA bloc's prospects in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, with voting scheduled to conclude on June 1 and results expected on June 4.
