The Income-tax (I-T) department has introduced a new feature in the Annual Information Statement (AIS), allowing taxpayers to track the status of their information verification process in real-time. AIS provides a comprehensive report of a taxpayer's financial transactions throughout the fiscal year, including details like salary, interest, dividends, and investments, aiming to offer transparency and aid accurate tax filing. \r
This new feature enables taxpayers to dispute any inaccuracies reported by agencies, enhancing transparency and ensuring corrections if needed. While AIS captures all significant transactions, Form 26AS specifically records incomes on which taxes have been deducted. Common errors in AIS include duplicate entries and misreported transactions, emphasizing the need for cross-checking with other financial documents. \r
To ensure smooth tax filing, it's recommended to start early, verify documents thoroughly, and address any issues identified in AIS promptly. Regular monitoring of AIS throughout the financial year is also advised to stay updated on financial transactions and tax liabilities. If discrepancies are found post-filing, taxpayers should revise their returns accordingly for accuracy.
